1. How do I join a game?

All bookings are handled through StartPlaying.games. Browse the available campaigns, pick a table whose schedule and playstyle fit you, and reserve your seat directly on the platform. You can also join our Discord server to ask questions or get notified when a new slot opens up.

2. What are the benefits of playing in Fantasy Lair?

Fantasy Lair games are professionally run RPG campaigns set in the original homebrew world of Lands of Arda. You get a reliable weekly schedule, custom maps and NPCs, a paid VTT setup, layered audio, fair and balanced encounters, and a GM whose full-time job is running great tables. No railroads, no pay-to-win, no ghosting.

3. How are games run?

Games are run using the latest VTTs and Discord for communication, providing a seamless and immersive experience. Information about game mechanics and lore is found on our Kanka page.

4. Can I influence the game world?

Absolutely! Player actions and decisions can significantly impact the world of Lands of Arda. Every character’s choices can lead to the creation of new and exciting elements within the setting.

5. Is there a cost to play?Yes. Fantasy Lair games are priced per player, per session through StartPlaying.games. Current active weekly campaigns are $33 per player per session. Exact pricing is always shown on each listing before you book. Private groups, one-shots, and special events are quoted separately depending on format, session length, and preparation needed.6. Are there any subscription options?

Yes, we offer supporter subscriptions. These do not cover game fees and do not provide in-game bonuses but allow players to introduce their own content into the community’s games, such as custom spells, feats, or NPCs.

7. How can I explore the lore and locations of Lands of Arda?

You can explore the detailed lore and locations of Lands of Arda on our Kanka page. It provides an organized and fashionable way to navigate our game’s rich background and stories.

8. What kind of content can I expect in the games?

Our games feature extensive homebrew content, including unique environments, NPCs, mechanics, and player options.  The themes are usually around high fantasy of a medieval level of technology with the addition of magic. The play style and tone differ from campaign to campaign.

9. What do I need to play?

You’ll need a stable internet connection, a computer and, if the game is live, a good headset and relatively quiet environment. Specific game details will be provided by your GM before the session.

10. How are payments done?

Payments are typically handled through the StartPlaying.games platform for added security and reliability.

11. Do I need a camera?

No, a camera is not required to play. However, having one can enhance the experience, especially for role-playing interactions.

12. What is the difference between Live and PbP (Play-by-Post)?

Live games are conducted in real time using virtual tabletops and communication tools, usually over a few hours in one session. PbP games are asynchronous, allowing players to post their actions and responses at their own pace over days or weeks.

13. Do I need a group?

No, you do not need a group to join. You can sign up as an individual player, and we will place you in a suitable game with other players.

14. Can you run games at times other than those listed?

We try to accommodate as many schedules as possible. If you need a game at a different time, please contact us, and we will do our best to find a suitable time slot.

15. Can we play in person?

Currently, our games are primarily online. However, if there is enough interest and you are in a location where an in-person game can be arranged, we are open to discussing it.

16. Do you livestream your games?

We do not currently livestream our games. Our focus is on providing an immersive and engaging experience for our players without the added pressure of an audience. In the scenario where a pre-made group wishes to livestream their game, it could be possible after a discussion.

17. What happens after I book a game?After booking, you will receive the information needed to join the game space — usually including Discord access, preparation steps, and character creation instructions. Ned will help you understand what you need before your first session. For live games, sessions are played through Foundry VTT and Discord. Make sure you have a stable internet connection, a working microphone, and enough time to join reliably.18. Do I need to know Lands of Arda before joining?No. Lands of Arda is Fantasy Lair’s original homebrew world, but new players are not expected to know the lore before joining. You will learn what matters through play, character creation, and the campaign introduction. Players who enjoy deep lore can explore the public wiki on Kanka, but it is not required to start.19. Are beginners allowed?Some Fantasy Lair campaigns are suitable for newer players, while others are better suited for experienced players who enjoy challenge, consequence, and long-term commitment. Check each campaign’s description and difficulty rating before booking. If you are unsure, contact Ned before joining.
